Field Trips

All Field Trips leave from the Heritage Hall parking lot. Members will carpool whenever possible so that no one has to drive alone – and carpooling helps the environment.

The Garden Club sponsors field trips in October, November, January, February, March and April. In the past few years club members have visited Leu Gardens in Orlando, Discovery Gardens in Lake County and Hollis Gardens in Lakeland. Four trips are currently scheduled for 2024.
Lunch & Learn. Each field trip is followed by a group lunch for everyone who wishes to partake.

Winter – Spring 2024

Friday, January 19 – Apopka International Winter Orchid Festival

For the January field trip, The Garden Club of Celebration visited Krull-Smith at their nursery in Apopka for the International Winter Orchid Festival. Vanda, dendrobium, and mariposa orchids filled four greenhouses with splashes of color and floral aromas. The American Orchid Society answered questions and provided informative Culture Sheets for different types of orchids.

To see more photos of the orchids, visit our Photos Page. Brad posted a plethora of beautiful images.

Friday, February 16 – The Arboretum at the University of Central Florida

Our second trip of the season was to the Arboretum at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. It is an indoor living laboratory, designed to provide opportunities for students, staff and visitors to explore and learn about plant life in the Central Florida region.

Friday, March 15 – Gaylord Palms

The garden club toured the Gaylord Palms Hotel on March 15. We had a guided tour through the 4.5 acres of plantings that are under four glass domes. Over 1200 species and 500,000 plants are shown in many garden situations. Plants from Key West, St. Augustine and the Everglades are areas represented under the domes.  There is even a salt water lake with a full-sized floating boat that is also a restaurant. This time of the year hundreds of daffodils and tulips are arrayed along the walking trails for a visitors enjoyment. Alligators, snakes, koi, Tarpon and Sheephead fish are in different enclosures spaced throughout the trails.  After the tour we visited Red Lobster for lunch.

Friday, April 19 – Mick Farms in Saint Cloud

Our last Field Trip of the season is to Mick Farms, a family owned farm, located at  4261 Canoe Creek Road in Saint Cloud, 28 miles / 40 minutes from Celebration.
