September 15, 2021 @ 9:00 am – 11:30 am
Brad Wagoner

This is our first meeting together in a long time.  This meeting has changed back to a zoom meeting.

Join us for a look at Florida’s tiniest heroes. We’ll cover: The History of Beekeeping; Life in the Beehive; What Beekeepers Do; How to Help Honey Bees; and Gardening for Pollinators.

The Western honey bee that we know of is not a native to our lands as they were brought to our shores by European settlers. Only 8 species of over 20,000 species of known bees are considered “honey bees”.  Our bees are very busy and are involved in creating many products in our economy. We all know that they are prolific general pollinators and allow many of our farm crops to have larger crops. Honey bees also make the bees wax, Royal Jelly (which some people claim bestows health benefits) and the delicious honey that we love to eat. The life of a bee is not an easy one. They have to deal with parasites, pesticides, parasites, weather changes and Colony Collapse Disorder.
