Theresa Schretzmann-Myers gave us a fascinating talk on how to care for and propagate amaryllis. She described her childhood growing up on a farm in Florida and how her interest in amaryllis was learned from her mother. She showed us how the sex organs of the plant can be used to either conserve that bulb or cross its characteristics with another, giving interesting results. She has studied the work of Henry Nehrling and showed us his formula for fertiliser and seed compost to ensure a healthy plant. Everyone who attended enjoyed her talk and will no doubt be waiting for their amaryllis to flower to try out her techniques!
