At our first meeting of the New Year we presented checks to four groups.  Cindi Junkins, Director of Mentoring and website management, Education Foundation, Osceola County accepted a check for $1500 for the Take Stock in Children mentoring program. Kathleen Sipio, Development Officer, Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Florida accepted a check for $1500 and Gloria Niec Executive Director, Celebration Foundation accepted a check for $1500 for Thriving in Place. Each recipient gave a very  moving account of how the funds would be used by each charity. Finally Denise Lacey  spoke about the project that we are supporting at Celebration High School. She and Francesca Wellard will present a check to Mrs Thuesen, science teacher at the High school for the creation of raised beds to teach children about growing vegetables. Garden Club is certainly making a difference in our community.    After some Club business, Kristin Pategas of Hortus Oasis in Winter Park gave a fascinating talk on succulents and how they can be grown and used in pots and in the landscape. From cacti to sedums, Kristin enthralled us with wonderful photos and information about how to care for this amazing variety of plants.
